Cove Bay is a small coastal settlement along the Atlantic coast of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. The small fishing and resort community is situated at the northern end of St. Lucia's seven mile beach. The area has a rich historical background with archaeological evidence dating back to the Amerindian era. In the 1600s, Cove Bay was occupied by European settlers from Holland, France, England, and Scotland. Settlement of the area is linked to the arrival of these settlers, who established sugar cane fields and fishing villages. The population of St. Lucia has diverse origins, including African slaves, who emerged as a major labour force in the sugar industry. In the 19th century, an international port was developed in Cove Bay, and many ships of the Royal Navy used the port as a refueling station. During WWII, the port served as headquarters for the British and Canadian troops stationed in St. Lucia. Today, the village of Cove Bay remains a quiet fishing village and calming beach resort, the perfect escape for holidaying tourists. The secluded beach is a peaceful oasis, surrounded by mountains on three sides.
