It was built in the first half of the 19th century by Mirza Golam Pir, a wealthy merchant and one of the leading merchants of Dhaka at the time. The mosque is renowned for its intricate terracotta works and is home to many cultural activities. Its unique star-shaped design is what gives it the name "Star Mosque". It was declared a "national monument" in 1960 by the Government of Bangladesh. It is one of the most famous mosque in Bangladesh which you must visit.

The Star Mosque, also known as Tara Masjid, is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is a renowned Muslim monument, famous for its intricate terracotta work and elaborate star-shaped decorations. Built in the 18th century, the mosque was commissioned by Mirza Golam Pir under the sponsorship of the nawab of Dhaka. The architecture of the mosque is mainly Mughal, with elements of British Indian and Iranian styles incorporated in its design. The exterior is characterized by its five domes and numerous decorative spires. The interior is ornately decorated with intricate geometric and floral patterns in polychrome and gold. The mosque is also known for its intricate calligraphy and burj work. The latticework of the mosque is also unique and has earned this monument much praise for its artistic beauty. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

The mosque is open to visitors from all backgrounds, although non-Muslims may be asked to remove their shoes prior to entering the mosque.
