The Shahjalal Shahi Mosque, also known as the ‘Dargah-e-Shahjalal’ is an iconic monument located in the north-eastern Bangladeshi city of Sylhet. It is one of the most important religious sites in the country and attracts thousands of pilgrims each year. The architecture of the mosque is an example of traditional Islamic architecture and is known for its domed roof and intricately carved walls. It stands as a reminder of the city’s importance in the spread of Islam to the region. The mosque was erected in 1667 AD on the site of a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, and the local Hindu community would come to pray here before it was changed into a mosque.
