Brief History:
Rayer Bazar Jame Mosque is one of the oldest and largest mosque in Bangladesh which is located at the district of Dhaka. According to the inscription which is inscribed from the time of the construction of the mosque, it was built in 1594 AD. The stones of the mosque were built in thirty-five pieces. It was construct in the 16th century, during the reign of Sultan Subhan Quli. For this, it has the privilege of being one of the oldest mosques of Bangladesh. The mosque has four octagonal minarets around the large dome that gives it an iconic look. The height of the main dome is 30 feet and it has two flanking pointy domes. A long stair leads to the entrance of the mosque. The mosque is made of lime and mortar is used to seal the joints. The plan of the mosque is in the shape of a perfect square with its four balconies in the four corners. There is an inscription at the eastern facade that dates it to 1594. The mosque has an impressive architecture with two large domes set over two floors, in classic Mughal style, and with four minarets. The main prayer area of the mosque features a magnificent marble mihrab, white and red rusticated arches and domes, and intricately carved stonework patterns. The local artisans of Dhaka have used locally sourced material such as terracotta and brick to create beautiful designs on the walls and ceilings of the mosque. The mosque is decorated with detailed wood carvings in the entrance and large geometric patterns in the interior. The walls are decorated with intricate motifs and a multi-colored floral motif along the arches, pillars, and domes. The decorations are further uplifted with silver and gold paint, creating a stunning and majestic atmosphere. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
