Brief History:
: Ramganj Jame Mosque is a historic mosque located at the village of Ramganj in Lakshmipur district, Bangladesh. It was built during the Mughal era in 16th century by Sultan Shaista Khan. The mosque is known for its beautiful architecture and intricate designs. The mosque is built in a rectangular shape with an arcaded courtyard and two tall minarets on either sides. The central mihrab within the prayer hall is the main attraction of the mosque. The mosque also contains some inscriptions in Persian which gives some information about the construction of the mosque. It is one of the most famous mosque in Bangladesh which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Ramganj Jame Mosque is a four-domed mosque located in Lakshmipur, Bangladesh. It was built in 1793 by Subedar Muhammad Abdul Aziz and is an example of the Islamic Mughal architecture of the 18th century. The Ramganj Jame Mosque is constructed with a quadrilateral shaped mosque built on a raised platform accessed by double staircases. The front facade is richly decorated with terracotta plaques ornamented with floral and geographic patterns. The mosque is a three storied structure with four small curved bulbous domes on the top roof. There are four corner towers and the central dome is crowned by a finial. The prayer hall is divided into three aisles and is illuminated by seven large windows decorated with intricate designs. The mosque also has a façade of stone and plasterwork arranged in sections created by vertical pilasters and cutout arches. The long courtyards of the mosque are surrounded by a low boundary wall pierced by an arched gateway. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
