Fenchuganj Jami Mosque is an ancient mosque located in Fenchuganj, Sylhet, Bangladesh. The mosque was built in 1677 by Sultan Shah Shuja, the Subedar of Bengal. The mosque has Mughal architectural features and was built with locally made bricks and fine ornamental carvings. The roof of the mosque is covered in green tiles. The bricks used for construction are described in the Ain-ul-Mulk as “white, pink and blue”. The mosque is a three-storey structure with domes, arches and intricate designs. The main prayer hall is located on the second floor of the mosque and is enclosed by a large double storied prayer hall with two minarets on either side. Fenchuganj Jame Mosque is an ancient Mughal-style mosque located in the Fenchuganj neighborhood of Sylhet district in Bangladesh. The mosque was built in 1608 AD by Mughal ruler Jahangir. The mosque is known for its unique architecture and design. It has a single-domed structure with two entrance gates. The building is constructed with burnt bricks and has a square plan. Inside, the mosque is divided into two chambers – an inner prayer hall and an outer courtyard. The prayer hall is marked with one central dome and four turrets at the corners. Lodges are attached to each corner to provide ventilation. The courtyard has a large veranda and four long pillars that support the dome. The mosque has a Persian style of decoration. The exterior walls of the mosque are decorated with floral and geometric designs. The walls and pillars are also ornately decorated with carving and calligraphy, which adds to the unique character of the mosque. The epigraph of the famous calligrapher Amanullah is inscribed on the south side of the mosque. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
