History:
Badamdar is an ancient Azerbaijani village located just outside of the capital, Baku. Residents of the village trace their origin to the Oguz Turkic nation, which migrated to the Caucasus region in the late 11th century. The village appears in historical documents as early as the 13th century, when it was mentioned in the 1168 work of Abu Said of Gardez, an Arabic geographer. Abu Said noted that Badamdar was a village in Azizbadi, which was a dependency of the Shirvan province of medieval Elburz Kurdistan. In later centuries, the village was part of the Shirvan Khanate, which was then the most important political power in the region. After the Russian Empire absorbed the rest of Azerbaijan, the population of Badamdar grew substantially, and in 1870 it was recorded as a large administrative unit with its own Muslim religious court. During the Soviet period, the village was home to a collective farm and a cotton weave factory. In the 1980s, a cattle breeding program was launched, which provided milk and meat to people throughout the region. Today, Badamdar is a thriving agricultural community and an important site for the region’s tourism industry. The village attracts visitors from all over the world thanks to its peaceful atmosphere and stunning landscape. Many of the buildings in Badamdar were constructed during the 18th and 19th centuries, and the village is well known for its lush gardens and picturesque vineyards.
