Vesperbild-Kapelle is a small Roman Catholic chapel located near Kempten in the Allgäu region of Bavaria, Germany. Built in 1485, the chapel is dedicated to Our Lady of the Annunciation and serves as a place of worship, remembrance and celebration each Sunday in May. The chapel is listed as a site of special historical interest and is a popular destination for pilgrims and tourists visiting the area. History Vesperbild-Kapelle was first built in 1485 and has been well preserved over the centuries. It was built by the town of Kempten to commemorate the birth of the Virgin Mary and in particular, the Annunciation of the angel Gabriel to Mary. It is believed to be the oldest surviving chapel of its kind in the area. Facts The chapel is made of local stone and measures 12 by 6 meters. The entrance is decorated with frescoes that date from the 16th century. Inside, visitors can find frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries and several paintings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The chapel also contains a curious 17th century stove and two crucifixes. Services Every Sunday in May, a special mass or vesper service is held at the chapel. There is also a local Pilgrimage Day in May, where visitors can come and take part in the procession and prayers before the service. During the rest of the year, special masses are held twice a year on special occasions such as Easter and the Feast of the Annunciation.
