St. Rupert's Church, Vienna, is an early Gothic parish church located in the first district of Vienna, Austria. It is dedicated to Saint Rupert of Salzburg, the patron saint of the salt makers. It is one of the oldest churches in Vienna and the oldest church in the first district. The church dates back to the 12th century and was originally part of a Benedictine monastery. It was restored in the 15th century and redecorated in the Baroque style. It has served as a parish church since 1538. It is one of the best churches in Austria which you must visit.

History:

St. Rupert’s Church was originally part of a Benedictine monastery that was constructed in 1170. In 1230, it was placed under the control of the Salzburg Cathedral chapter. During the Napoleonic Wars of 1809, the monastery was dissolved and the church was made a parish church in 1538. It was restored in the 15th century and redecorated in the Baroque style by the architect Johann Jakob Becher in 1741. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Austria.
