History:

Augarten is a city park located in the city of Vienna, Austria. It is one of Vienna's oldest parks and dates back to the 16th century when it was established in 1560. It was originally owned by the wealthy Fugger family and was used as a recreational area and hunting ground. When the family split up in 1775, the area was given to the Austrian Imperial family and used primarily as a pleasure garden. In the 19th century, the city of Vienna took ownership of the park and established a zoo within the park. In 1913, a portion of the park was dedicated to the memory of Emperor Franz-Josef I, who had recently died. The area contains many monuments dedicated to him and statues of him and his family.
