Sanahin Monastery Complex In Armenia is a religious complex located in the Lori Province of northern Armenia. It is one of the oldest monasteries in Armenia and its structures were built between the 10th and 13th centuries by the Tigran Hvertis, the leader of the Kiurikian Dynasty. The complex consists of the main churches of St. Gregoire the Illuminator and St. Astvatsatsine, a library, a refectory, and a gavit (ceremonial hall).
The entire complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its well-preserved architectural monuments and its period decorations. The architecture of Sanahin Monastery Complex is unique and combines Armenian, Greek, and other elements.

According to the historical sources, Sanahin Monastery Complex was founded in the 10th century and was associated with the royal court of the Kiurikian Dynasty. In 966, the Armenian Catholicos Smbat Grigori-the Illuminator consecrated a church in the complex. The current complex was built in the 11th and 12th centuries and was continuously restored and renovated thereafter. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Armenia.
