Talin Cathedral Monastery Complex In Armenia: History,Facts, & Services
Talin Cathedral Monastery Complex is located in Talin, Armenia. It is a popular Catholic pilgrimage destination and the Monastery was built in the 10th century. The single-nave Cathedral has a magnificent fresco of the Virgin Mary and Child and a temple dedicated to Saint Thomas. The nearby Church of Saint Gevorg is believed to be where Saint Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned before his miraculous conversion of King Trdat III to Christianity. The monastery complex also contains a number of other chapels, old wooden structures, and monolithic tombs. The monastery was renovated in the 1950s after being damaged during World War II, and it still serves as a place of worship. Services held at the monastery include Mass, baptisms, and Confession. The monastery is open to visitors throughout the year, and guided tours can be arranged.
