The Monumento a Osvaldo Pugliese (Buenos Aires) was inaugurated in 2019, on the occassion of the centenary of the birth of the maestro Osvaldo Pugliese. Located in the Parque del Tango of the neighborhood of San Telmo, in the City of Buenos Aires, it was designed by the sculptor Florencio Molina Campos and the architect Vanina Andrioli Sparvi. The monument, which is 3,6 m high, shows Osvaldo Pugliese wearing a tuxedo and gesturing music with a bandoneon in his arms. During the event ceremony, President Mauricio Macri, Argentine Minister of Modernization Andrés Ibarra and Buenos Aires Mayor Horacio Rodríguez Larrumbe, among other official guests, delivered their speeches paying tribute to the celebrated compositor and bandoneon player. The proyect was overseen by Fundación Osvaldo Pugliese, which was founded in 1981 by the artist Manuel Pugliese, the maestro's son, and nowadays continues to preserve the legacy of this distinguised Argentinian artist. Osvaldo Pugliese, who was born in the Buenos Aires district of Balvanera in 1905, started playing the piano at the age of five and at fourteen dedicated himself to the bandoneon. Throughout his lifetime, his compositions marked the history of Argentine tango and Argentine culture. He is celebrated for his instrumental tangos such as La Yumba, which became a classic of the genre. The Monument to Osvaldo Pugliese is an example of the celebration of the figures of tango that have been fundamental in the musical culture and tradition of Argentina.
