The Monumento a Juan de Garay is located in Santa Fe, Argentina and was erected to commemorate the explorer and conquistador who is credited with founding the city in 1573. The monument is a bronze statue of Garay, standing atop a horse and surrounded by eight gigantic anchors, symbolizing the main events of his life. Juan de Garay was born in Salamanca, Spain in 1528 and traveled with the governor of Jamaica, Pedro Márquez de Galeotos, to explore the lands of the New World.
