The Monumento a Julio Argentino Roca is a monument located in the Plaza Julio Argentino Roca in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was built in 1912 to commemorate the centenary of the birth of General Julio Argentino Roca, the president of Argentina from 1880 to 1886 and again from 1898 to 1904. Roca was a key figure in Argentine history, having played a major role in the Conquest of the Desert, a campaign in the late 1870s and early 1880s which saw the military subjugate indigenous tribes in Patagonia, the situation of Tribes in the North and Northwest of the country. The monument was designed by architect Julian Lagos and sculptor Luis de la Torre and stands 17 metres high. It is composed of a large bronze equestrian statue of Roca with a sword in his right hand and a copy of the Constitution in his left hand.
