The Shirley Heights Lookout is located on the island of Antigua in the Caribbean. The lookout was once an old British military look out post built in 1779 during the American War of Independence. The site is historically significant for several reasons. The British began constructing a series of fortifications to protect the island from invaders. Shirley Heights was used from 1779 to 1855 and was then abandoned. In the 1950s, The Lookout was restored and developed in leisure facilities. The restoration of the Lookout included the opening of several restaurants, a bar, and a gift shop. Legends Bar, with its live music events and great view of English Harbour, remains a popular hangout spot to this day. Shirley Heights has been a popular tourist destination since the restoration. On weekends, the Lookout becomes party central, as hundreds of visitors flock to the site to enjoy live music, great food, and drinks.
