History:

Tizi-Ouzou is a town in northern Algeria, which is also the capital of the Tizi-Ouzou Province. The town is also called Tigzirt-sur-Mer (English: The Sea of Tizi-Ouzou) due to its coastal location. Tigzirt-sur-Mer is believed to have been founded by Berbers during the Iron Age. It became an important trading post by the 8th century, and later came under the control of Béjaïa, a Berber kingdom. In the 16th century, the town fell under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. By the 19th century, Tizi-Ouzou had become an important port city for traders travelling between Europe and North Africa.
