Sidi Akkacha Mosque is located in the town of Tizi Ouzou, Algeria. It was built in the 12th century by the famous Berber historian and poet Abu-Bakrin Ibn ʿAli who settled in the area in the 11th century. The mosque was built in the local style of masonry walls and domed roof borrowed from Spanish architecture. The mosque, which is still used today, underwent extensive renovation in the 1990s. Its main feature is its hexagonal mihrab which is decorated with a black marble arch. Two stone arches and three horseshoe arches frame the mihrab, while the cupola that tops it is gilded in gold-leaf. The mosque also houses a fountain in the center of the prayer hall, which is said to contain healing properties.
