It was built in the 12th century by the Zirids, a regional Islamic dynasty. Its construction was financed by the ruler of the time, Abu l-Husayn Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Mu’look. The Mosque is an example of the Ifriqi style of architecture, which was popular in North Africa during this period. Its features include an arched courtyard, octagonal minaret, and a tall dome. The Mosque is still used by the local community for religious prayers and festivals. It is one of the most famous mosque in Algeria which you must visit.

The architecture of the Guelma Mosque in Algeria is characterized by a combination of traditional Islamic, Ottoman, and local Berber building techniques. These iwans are supported by multiple pillars and are lined with intricate tilework. The mausoleum on the eastern side of the mosque is reserved for religious figures and has a unique architectural style that features a single large dome and three smaller domes.
