Architecture:

The Khenchela Mosque in Algeria is a traditional Ottoman-style mosque which dates back to the 19th century. The mosque is located in the city center of Khenchela, which is the capital of the Khenchela Province in north-central Algeria. The mosque appears to have been constructed from local stone, and its design features a number of elements underlining its Ottoman origins. The main entrance to the mosque is a large arched portico, located in the western side of the building, which has two squat minarets on either side. From the portico, a small archway leads into the central prayer hall which is filled with benches for worshippers to kneel during prayer. This room also has a mihrab, which indicates the direction of Mecca. The walls and doors of the prayer hall are decorated with traditional Islamic motifs, such as Arabic calligraphy. There are two other wings of the mosque which both have separate entrances and are dedicated to various Islamic schools of thought. The rest of the mosque is constructed around a central courtyard which contains a large fountain used for ritual ablutions before prayer. On either side of the courtyard can be found more arched doorways leading to further annexes and other private areas. The roof of the mosque is covered in traditional tiles and the overall design is a combination between Islamic tradition and local customs. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
