Preza Castle, Prezë In Albania is a medieval fortress located in the newly created Prezë Municipality, Durrës County in the Northwest corner of Albania. It is located on a rocky hill overlooking a small lake outside the small city of Prezë. It was originally built in the 12th century and was rebuilt during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries by the principal Albanian noble families including the Dukagjini, the Balshaj and the Topia. It was the focal point of intrigue throughout the Ottoman period and the final seat of the Ottoman Empire in the region until it was captured by General Bimshe in May 1809 and used by the Provisional Government of Albania in May 1912. It is now mostly in ruins, although parts of it, including its ramparts and towers, are still visible. It is one of the most beautiful monuments in Albania
