Kisha e Shirgjit was established in 1994 by Albanian intellectuals and activists from Gjakova, Kosovo in order to preserve, promote and spread the Albanian culture and identity during a time of extreme nationalism and isolation. Since its inception, the organization has grown and expanded to include countries such as Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and the United States. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Albania.
