Horror Story of Château de Ballens, Ballens
Switzerland
Long ago, in the Swiss hamlet of Ballens, rose the infamous Château de Ballens. Built by a mad baron in a despairing attempt to win the attention of a woman he was betrothed to, the chateau had the semblance of a fairytale fortress.
Unfortunately, the baron's heart was too full of despair for such an effort to be successful. In the darkest hours of night, stories began to circulate amongst the nearby villages of strange happenings at the chateau; ghostly sights in the windows, horrible shrieking echoing through the hallways, blood seeping through cracks in the wall. Nothing could explain these occurrences and the baron swore it was all fabricated lies by superstitious locals.
But one night, a lone traveler passing through the area stopped by the chateau in an attempt to seek shelter from a snowstorm. To his horror, he discovered the baron lying on the floor – drained of all his blood. Upon further investigation, the traveler discovered secret passages in the walls, leading to hidden chambers full of horrific abominations and twisted science experiments.
These experiments were being performed by an old, demented alchemist who was revealed to be the woman the baron had been betrothed to. It was her terrible, arcane magic that had caused the strange happenings in the chateau – her experiments designed to harness the power of death and resurrection.
To this day, there is no one who knows what truly happened or why at the Château de Ballens. But locals still warn travelers to keep their distance, for dangers lurk in the shadows of the walls that surround the chateau. It is one of the most haunted places in switzerland
