Taj Mahal again bags the title of highest-revenue generating monument

Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and remains the highest-revenue generating monument in India. During the Covid-19 break between 2019 and 2022, the Taj Mahal generated INR132 crore. This means even in the midst of pandemics the Taj Mahal managed to generate the highest revenue. 

The monument of love sold the highest number of tickets in the last three years bagging the most visited monuments in India. It saw a very high number of visitors, especially to the mausoleum which has separate tickets counter. This system was introduced in 2018, especially for the mausoleum. 

What’s so amazing about the mausoleum, you ask? Well, the mausoleum is the exact replica of the houses and tombs of the Mumtaj Mahal and Shah Jahan. During the pandemic, most of the monuments were closed to visitors. Following the trend, the Taj Mahal sees the trend in limiting the visitors. Regardless, it managed to generate 9.5 crores in just a year. 

If we put the figure in simple terms, the Taj Mahal alone contributed 24% of the total revenue for three years, 2019 to 2022. The data is presented by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) which manages and protects around 3,693 monuments in all India. 

The news of the reopening of monuments and other heritage sites came as a relief for the citizens who were bored being caged in their houses for two years. Gradually, the government started lifting up the lockdowns and restrictions and allowing Indians and foreigners to witness the beautiful monument of love, the Taj Mahal. 

Apart of the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Konark Sun Temple, Chittorgarh Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Ellora caves, Shaniwar Wada, Mamallapuram, and Golconda Fort are some of India’s highest-revenue generating monuments.
