It began as the “Presbyterian Church of the Cameroon” in 1931 and has since expanded to include five Presbytery of the Church in and around different parts of Nigeria. The denomination has grown to over 190 local Presbyterian Churches and fellowships in Nigeria, with an estimated membership of over 1.5 million people. The Presbyterian Church of the Cameroon was established in 1931 in the town of Nkwen, Northwest Province. In 1940, it became the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria. Since then, the denomination has grown and expanded to include other areas in Nigeria. In 1997, it was given autonomy as the Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Nigeria.
