History:

Tambomachay is an archaeological site located in the Cusco Region of Peru, close to the city of Cusco. It consists of a fortress and a series of baths built by the Inca in the 15th century. The ruins are thought to have served both a religious and administrative function. The site lies in the valley of Qorikancha, at the base of the eastern slope of the Vilcabamba Range. The fortress covers an area of 390 square feet and is composed of three terraces and baths. The terraces contain a variety of stone walls and enclosures and the baths are cut into the living rock. Tambomachay was an important part of the Inca Empire and was likely used to control access to and through the region.
