The Sydney Triratna Buddhist Community - Newtown follows the traditional Tibetan Buddhist tradition of developing ones spiritual practice through the regular practice of meditation, chanting, and ceremonies. A typical program may include daily morning meditation (with chanting and/or prostrations to the Buddha); Buddhist study classes and explorations of Buddhist philosophy; regular weekly meeting for Buddhist discussion and sharing; and special Dharmasangha days and retreat days. Chanting is an important part of Australian Triratna Buddhist Community practice with chanting usually occurring daily and before and after special ceremonies. In addition, the Centre often arranges all-night chanting sessions and engages in a variety of blessing ceremonies and rituals throughout the year. The meditation practice at the Sydney Triratna Buddhist Community - Newtown is based around the mindfulness of breath, enabling retreatants and practitioners to develop a stillness of mind and access beneficial states of awareness.
