As they settled in this new area, they believed in their gods and established sacred sites dedicated to them. This led to the establishment of the River-Side Shrine and Sacred Grove of Osun. The shrine and grove were built in reverence to Osun, the goddess of fertility, wealth, and protection. The god Osun is the guardian of the waters of Osogbo and is believed to have both benevolent and malevolent powers.
