History:

The Parque de la Exposición in Lima is located in the middle of the historic center of the city and is the oldest park in the capital. It was created in 1872 by a decree of President Manuel Pardo in order to relocate the colonial San Isidro Fair, which was celebrated in the same area since the 16th century. The design of the park is attributed to the French engineer Eduardo La Hitte, and was inspired by the wildest English gardens. The park was initially used as a venue for cultural and political activities, such as the Sajama celebration of Peru's independence in 1876. In the late 20th century, the park underwent extensive renovation and urbanization in order to accommodate the World Exposition of 1859. The area was redesigned and enjoyed a period of great popularity, with the construction of several monuments, a bandstand, a fountain, a monumental fountain and over 70 species of trees and plants. In the second decade of the 20th century, the park was renovated once again in order to host the inauguration of the Pan-American Union. Today, the park remains a popular destination and cultural center of Lima, hosting a wide range of events and activities, such as jazz concerts, film screenings, and art exhibitions.
