History
The LCCN was founded in 1968 as a result of a merger between two churches: the Lutheran Church of West Africa (LCWA) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Nigeria (ELCN). Prior to the merger, the LCWA was founded in 1923, when German missionaries arrived in Nigeria and established churches throughout the region. The ELCN was founded in 1948 by native Nigerians, who were dissatisfied with the policies and practices of the LCWA.
