: Huánuco Pampa is an archaeological site located in the Huánuco region of Peru. It is the largest archaeological site in Peru, with more than 5,000 structures built by the Huari people between 500 and 1000 AD. The site is believed to have been an administrative and religious center for the Huari, who were one of the most powerful civilizations in the ancient Andes. The site includes a citadel, palace, temples, irrigation systems, terraces, and many beautiful monoliths. Huánuco Pampa was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. Prominent Features:

1. Masapu Temple: This large and well-preserved temple is considered to be the largest temple in the Huánuco Pampa Archaeological Site and dates back to the late fifteenth century. It features intricate carvings in several styles and has a stepped pyramid form. There are four faces in each corner and the entrance is on the east side, while the exit is on the west side. 2. Huaca de la Luna: This is the oldest structure within the Huánuco Pampa site and dates back to the early twelfth century. It features numerous multicolored terraces, the most impressive of which is the main platform which is decorated with numerous carvings depicting various gods and warriors. 3. Ushno Pyramid: This is the second largest structure within the Huánuco Pampa site and dates back to the late thirteenth century. It features a stepped pyramid form with several terraces on the front side. The Ushno Pyramid contains numerous interesting carved stone works showing gods and warriors. 4. Kanchis Pyramid: This smaller pyramid within the Huánuco Pampa site dates back to the late fourteenth century. It features a stepped pyramid form with several terraces and also contains numerous interesting Stone age carvings. 5. Plaza de los Artesanos: This is a large plaza located just outside the Huánuco Pampa Archaeological Site. It is home to several artisan workshops where visitors can purchase traditional handicrafts and souvenirs. 6. History:

Huánuco Pampa is an archaeological site in the Huánuco region of Peru. The site was first discovered in the late 19th century and has since served to give insight into the past societies of the region. It is located in the basin of the Maranon River and is near the present-day city of Huánuco. The site is believed to date from the Late Intermediate Period (1100–1450 A.D.), possibly earlier, and is associated with the Wanka culture. The Spanish encountered the site during their conquest of Peru and named it “Pampa de las Huancas”. Early archaeological exploration of the site began in 1902 when Max Uhle conducted excavations at the site. Uhle concluded that Huánuco Pampa was the “largest, most impressive, and most easily recognizable” ancient Andean capital of the Huancavelica Valley. Also during this time, the site’s first walls were discovered. In the 1910s a German team time lead by Felix von Luschan and Jorge Vidal conducted excavations and surveys of the area. Under this work, the Huanca people were discovered and the site was further studied. In the 1970s, another archaeological investigations of Huánuco Pampa began by Julio C. Tello. In the early 1990s, the Winay Phyuray Project was initiated by Italian and Peruvian archaeologists to further research the area and surrounding archaeological sites. Today, Huánuco Pampa Archaeological Park continues archaeological exploration, creating exhibits for visitors, and promoting conservation of the archaeological site.
