History:

Gidan Makama was founded in Kano State, Nigeria by Haruna Gyashua in 14th century. Its first king was Sarki Gyashua. Gidan Makama was an important city in the old Hausa State. It played a major role in the development of trade and finance and was considered a major center of Islamic culture and learning. The city was also home to a number of famous scholars including Aliyu Babba Belgore and Ibrahim Yawu, who wrote the famous book of Hausa poems, and Malam Dikko, who wrote a collection of Hausa proverbs. In the 1400s, the ruling kings of Gidan Makama incorporated the state into the Kano Empire and helped expand its influence and power. The city also provided protection to travelers and merchants making their way between Kano and Katsina. In 1634, the city was destroyed when Kano sacked by the Yoruba and other kingdoms. After the fall of the Kano Empire, Gidan Makama flourished until 1807, when it was captured by the Fulani. In the 19th century, Gidan Makama was an important center of Islamic culture and learning.
