Worship Method:
Gaomin Temple, located in Shangqiu city, Henan Province, is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in China. The temple's worship method is inspired by the Buddhist belief of respecting and praying for gods. Worshippers can first burn incense to pay their respects to all the gods, as it is believed in Chinese culture that burning incense can attract gods’ favor. Then, they should repeat Buddhist sutras, such as the Heart Sutra, to express their reverence to the Buddha. These sutras can be chanted in a repetitive rhythm (isonomia) or in a meditative tone. After that, people go to the main hall and present their offerings to the Three Treasures – the Tree Jewels of Buddhism, such as flowers, fruits, and other items. Finally, they perform traditional religious rituals such as prostrations while reciting mantras and listening to Buddhist lectures. These rituals are meant to help people cultivate their faith and let go of their egos to reach the path of enlightenment. This most visited temple in China
