Calvary Baptist Church is a church located in Washington, DC and is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA. The church was founded in 1875 by a group of African Americans from Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Freedman’s Village, Virginia and was first located in the temporary home of a freed family on North Capitol Street.

In 1876, the church purchased its first organ and in 1896, they commissioned DC's first African American architect, W.H. Syphax, to build a larger building to hold parishioners.
