It was established in 1892 and is currently the oldest Seventh-day Adventist church in the country. In 1892, Captain James Foote, a missionary for the American Seventh-day Adventist Church, established the Yokosuka Japanese SDA Church. Foote had been sent to Japan with the goal of spreading the Adventist message throughout Japan and the surrounding areas. After working at the mission for 15 years, he eventually left with his family in 1902, but the church continued to expand and thrive on its own.
