The State Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts (commonly referred to as the Pushkin Museum) is the largest museum of European art in Moscow. The Pushkin is a state museum, founded in 1912 by professor Ivan Tsvetayev, with the support of Tsar Nicholas II. The museum has over 560,000 items in its collection, including masterpieces by Rembrandt, Rubens, Renoir, Poussin and Botticelli. It is one of the world's largest repositories of art from all periods and styles of European art, from ancient to contemporary. It is one of the best churches in Russia which you must visit.

History:

The museum was founded when Professor Ivan Tsvetayev received the collection of his brother and devoted patron of art, Alexander Tsvetayev, after his death. Alexander Tsvetayev's collection was supplemented by other art works that the professors purchased and received in donations, including the collections of famous European and Russian art patrons such as Pavel Tretyakov, Sergei Shchukin and Ivan Morozov. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Russia.
