Kolomna Kremlin is a fortress located in Kolomna, Moscow Oblast, Russia. It was built in the late 15th century primarily to protect the inhabitants from attacks by Lithuanian and Crimean Tatars. The fortress has walls made of white limestone and arrays of round and octagonal towers. Over the centuries, the Kremlin has been used for different purposes, from military garrisons to prison cells. History:

Grand Duke of Moscow Vasily III made Kolomna his capital in the early 16th century and began the construction of Kolomna Kremlin in 1525. Construction was completed in 1530, but the fortress was still regularly used by Moscow Tsars and Grand Princes in the 16th-17th centuries. The fortress was damaged by fires and other disasters in that time, and was eventually abandoned. In the 18th century, a prison was established in the fortress, but it later became an artillery garrison and a military academy.
