History:
The Ulyanovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore in Russia is a museum established in 1898 and dedicated to the Ulyanovsk region and the great Russian writer Aleksandr Pushkin, who spent his youth in the area. Upon its creation, the museum was initially known as the Ulyanovsk Provincial Museum. Later, in 1978 it was renamed and has since been known as the Ulyanovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore. The museum initially consisted of a few exhibition halls dedicated to the history, culture and nature of the region and contained a wide variety of objects such as books, coins, documents, photographs, archaeological artifacts, antiques and more. In 1992, the museum moved to a new building in the city center, allowing it to expand its collections and its range of research activities and exhibitions. The new facility was opened in 2000 and is now the home of the permanent exhibition titled "Ulyanovsk Region: Past and Present”, covering topics such as the region's natural environment and wildlife, its traditional occupations, its craftsmanship, military history, and the works of Aleksandr Pushkin. In addition to its permanent exhibition, the museum also features a number of temporary exhibitions each year, as well as a wide range of educational and cultural events. The Ulyanovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore is also actively involved in research projects conducted in cooperation with other museums and universities.
