The Temple of Seti I is an ancient Egyptian temple located at Abydos in Upper Egypt. It was built by Seti I during his reign (1290–1279 BCE) during the New Kingdom. It is located immediately behind the Great Temple of Osiris, which faces the Nile River. The Temple of Seti I is the largest of the two temples located at Abydos. It is a rectangular, four-roomed temple built in sandstone and limestone. Much of the exterior is well-preserved. Inside, the temple walls are decorated with scenes depicting Seti I offering adoration to Osiris, Isis and Horus, as well as images of Seti I with the gods of fire, wind, and water. There are also scenes of Seti I smiting his enemies. The temple is one of the best-preserved sites in Egypt and is famous for its inscriptions. These include the Grand List of Abydos, which is the longest known list of kings from the Old Kingdom to the Ptolemaic Dynasty. The walls also include hieroglyphic inscriptions of prayers, hymns and magical texts, which are used to protect the temple from negative energies.
