Worship Method:
The ancient Temple of Osiris at Abydos was built around 2800 BCE. to celebrate the cult of Osiris. As part of the worship of Osiris, the Temple featured rituals and ceremonies dedicated to the god, such as statuary, offerings, and processions. One of the main rituals was the procession of the sacred boat of Osiris. The priests of Osiris would gather at the temple each day to bring offerings to Osiris and march with the sacred boat. The procession would begin in the east and end in the north-west. The procession would then return to the temple and the worshipers would stand before the statue of the god. The priests would present the offerings to Osiris and then circle the statue three times, while chanting prayers and hymns. The other ritual was the offering of libations, which were made to the god on a daily basis. These offerings were made to ensure that the power of the god was present and invoked. The libations would be poured at the feet of the statue, with the worshiper then giving thanks to Osiris. This ritual was also often accompanied by prayers, hymns and offerings of food and drink. Finally, the cult of Osiris at the Abydos Temple featured the singing of hymns and the playing of drums. These rituals were believed to renew the power of the god and to enliven the cult.
