Pyramid of Merenre I In Egypt: History,Facts, & Services
Pyramid of Merenre I is the oldest and largest pyramid among the three pyramids at the necropolis of Saqqara, Egypt. The pyramid is believed to have been built around 2465 BC and is likely the work of Merenre I, sixth ruler of the fourth dynasty. It is thought to have been the first pyramid to be built in Egypt. The pyramid is approximately 75 meters (246 feet) high and 160 meters (525 feet) wide. Inside is a burial chamber where artifacts and remains of ancient rulers have been found. It originally consisted of six steps and was encased in fine limestone blocks, but much of the casing has since been taken away. Today, the Pyramid of Merenre I stands as a monument to the ingenuity and ambition of the ancient Egyptians.
