The Pyramid of Menkaure is located in Giza, Egypt and is the smallest of the three main pyramids within the Great Pyramid complex of Giza. It is believed to have been constructed for Pharaoh Menkaure (also known as Mycerinus) of the 4th Dynasty (around 2500 BC). This pyramid is believed to have been designed by the architect Hemiunu, who was responsible for the designs of both the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Khafre. It stands at 65.5 meters and consists of a base of 108.5 meters square. Unlike the other two main pyramids at Giza, it is made with granite blocks, instead of the more common limestone. The Pyramid of Menkaure was part of a larger complex that included a funerary temple, a causeway and mortuary temple, and a wall around the entire complex. The causeway was lined with sphinxes and was most likely used for royal processions, by carriages and on foot. The funerary and mortuary temples, located on the north-eastern side of the pyramid, were smaller than the causeway temple. Unfortunately, only remnants of the mortuary temple remain. The causeway is in the best state of preservation, with its beautiful pink granite walls still standing. However, it is unclear how much of the original structure was still intact when the causeway was first discovered. Today, the Pyramid of Menkaure is still open to the public and is a popular tourist destination.
