Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery in St. Petersburg is a large public cemetery dedicated to those who died in the city's 900-day Siege during World War II. It was opened in 1960 and since then has served as one of the most important public memorial sites in Russia. Memorial services are held at the cemetery on the anniversary of the Siege’s end, including a floral tribute from the government. The cemetery features a Stone Hall of Memory which houses the ashes of more than 8,000 citizens, and it is known for its extensive monument and artwork dedicated to the Siege's fallen. Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery is also home to a number of memorials and plaques honoring various other conflicts dating back to the 1930s.
