Petrovsky Palace in Moscow is a neoclassical palace in the city center and one of the former residences of the Tsar. It was built in 1790-1805 for Count Grigory Potemkin, Empress Catherine II’s favorite. Petrovsky Palace is located at 1:20 Kutuzovsky Prospekt, building 12, Moscow. It is currently a museum, part of the Russian State Historical Museum complex and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Petrovsky Palace was built by the famous Italian architect Giacomo Quarenghi. The palace was commissioned by Count Grigory Potemkin, the lover of Tsarina Catherine II, who presented it to her as a gift in 1797. Petrovsky Palace was used to host various audience events, including those of crowned heads of various countries, as well as by members of the royal family. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Russia.

Petrovsky Palace’s construction was halted due to the outbreak of the War of 1812, before eventually being completed in 1817.
