The Mosque of Al-Saleh Tala’i was founded in 1284 by Al-Saleh Tala’i himself, who was the second Mamluk Sultan of Egypt. It was built on a large square, and is surrounded by a number of smaller structures, including a street and other small shops and homes. Within the mosque, there is a mihrab (the main prayer niche) facing towards Mecca, a pulpit, a minbar (staircase, which is used by the preacher), and an ablution fountain. The mosque serves as an important place of worship for the Muslim community in Cairo. It is one of the most famous mosque in Egypt which you must visit.
