Mary Magdalene Catholic Church is an historic Catholic parish located in St. Louis, Missouri. It was founded in 1851 and is the oldest African American Catholic Parish in the United States. Its namesake comes from a follower of Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene, who is also known as “the apostle to the apostles”. The church is known for its strong and vibrant liturgical life and community outreach programs, and has been a source of comfort and stability for African Americans living in St. Louis for over a hundred and sixty years. History:

The church was founded to serve black Catholics in St. Louis, who had been excluded from white congregations until the mid-nineteenth century. Pastor Francis D. Deckers became the first pastor of the parish in 1851 and he was later followed by Emma Perrier, who would be its second pastor. Father Deckers and Father Perrier built the framework of the parish and established its outreach program. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Ireland.
