Mariinsky Palace in St. Petersburg is a grand Russian palace situated on the left bank of the Neva River. The palace was commissioned by Tsar Alexander I in the 1820s to be a country residence for himself, his wife the Empress Elizaveta Alekseyevna and their growing family. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Russia.

Mariinsky Palace stands 145 meters long, 79 meters wide and 30 meters high. It has 13 fountains and some 230 staterooms, as well as a chapel, working farm, dairy, bakery, and a tannery. The palace has two stories above ground and three stories below.
