Friendship Monument in Moscow In Russia: History,Facts, & Services
The Friendship Monument in Moscow is located near the entrance to the city's VDNKh Exhibition Complex. The monument was designed in 1953 by V.V. Trofimov and G.V. Tsykina and it serves as a symbol of friendship among the people of the Soviet Union, particularly between those of the Soviet Union and its allies. The Friendship Monument consists of a wide, shallow circular pool, with a central fountain made from large trunks of a beech tree. The core is surrounded by four columns holding up a five-pointed star, which symbolizes the union of the countries. A bas-relief of the great leaders of the Soviet Union is placed around the pool, and the entire monument is surrounded by a low wall of granite. The Friendship Monument is both a memorial to the friendship between countries and a reminder of the struggles of the Soviet Union during World War II. In addition, the monument serves as a tribute to the peace and solidarity that followed the war.
