The Egyptian Museum in Cairo was established in 1902 under the direction of Gustave Jéquier, an Egyptologist. It was initially located in Boulaq, Cairo, before being moved to Giza in 1907. In November 1924, the museum was moved to its current location in Tahrir Square, Cairo. The museum houses the world's largest collection of Pharaonic artifacts, as well as rare collections of Coptic art and mummies. It is estimated that the museum houses over 120,000 items, including over 50,000 ancient artifacts. Visitors can explore artifacts from the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms of Ancient Egypt, discover detailed sculptures from the Predynastic Period, walk among mummies of kings and queens, and learn about Egypt's important role in the mathematical, scientific, and cultural world of antiquity.
