History:
Dragon Bridge is a unique example of the Renaissance stonemasonry which is found in the city of Vladivostok in Russia. The bridge was constructed in 1895 under the guidance of the city’s first governor, Victor Yurievich, and the Russian Army’s engineer, Nikolay Prokopovich Shaposhnikov. The bridge was constructed as part of a plan to modernize the emerging city of Vladivostok and its surrounding architecture. It took four years to build the bridge, and it was the first bridge to span the city’s main waterway, the Golden Horn Bay. The bridge is made from reinforced concrete and faced with granite and seashells. The design of the bridge reflects the influence of the Romanov dynasty, which had reigned in Russia since 1613. The bridge spans 59 metres (195 feet) and consists of eight arches with four ‘dragon’ figures at each end. The figures are made from electrodes and cast steel and have a traditional ‘dragon’ appearance. The bridge quickly became a much-loved symbol of the city and is now a popular tourist attraction for visitors. Many of the city's buildings have been renovated throughout the centuries, but Dragon Bridge has remained largely unchanged. The bridge underwent restoration work in the late 1990s and was subsequently re-opened to the public. Since then, the bridge has remained a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. It is also sometimes used in military parades and other official ceremonies. Visit one of the famous monuments of Russia with your friends and family.
